Veneers
Modern innovations in cosmetic dentistry means a bright, shining smile makeover is more attainable than ever! Porcelain veneers are a durable, common solution for brightening your front teeth.
Made of thin strips of porcelain closely matched to your teeth color and teeth structure, veneers seamlessly enhance the appearance of your mouth. With the help of our dental lab partners, Dr. McKibben, Dr. Ehrbar, and the team can help you create the smile of your dreams.
What Are Porcelain Veneers?
Veneers are porcelain shells that attach directly to the front surface of your teeth. They are made in a dental laboratory to fit discreetly into your mouth, both physically and aesthetically. We use a permanent dental glue to attach the veneer directly to your tooth surfaces.
At McKibben Dental, we recommend veneers as a treatment option for patients with:
- Tooth blemishes
- Gaps
- Cracks
- Chips
- Discoloration from internal staining, or stains that can’t be removed by professional tooth whitening
- Worn teeth
- Dull teeth
It’s important to note that while a procedure like dental bonding fixes common issues like a chipped front tooth, veneers can be used for both fixing minor imperfections and purely for enhancing a smile. Talk with our team about which aesthetic treatment is best for you.
How Are Veneers Applied to My Teeth?
The entire process for veneers is painless, non-invasive and only takes a few appointments to complete.
To begin, our team will take images of the teeth you’d like treated. These photos will be sent to one of our partner dental laboratories for the creation of your physical veneers. The lab will closely match the porcelain shells to the color, shape and size of your natural teeth.
The creation process takes between two and three weeks. In the meantime, Dr. McKibben and Dr. Ehrbar will give you temporary veneers.
Once your porcelain restorations are ready, we’ll start the process by removing a small bit of enamel for easier attachment. This is a totally safe and harmless process and is necessary for proper bonding between the veneer and the tooth.
If needed, some minor touch-ups and last-minute adjustments may be made. When everything is ready, permanent dental glue is used to firmly attach the veneer. You are now free to show off your new, shiny smile to the Columbus area!
How Are Veneers and Dental Bonding Different?
Both veneers and dental bonding are simple, accessible cosmetic dentistry procedures available at McKibben Dental. However, both have unique benefits and differences including cost, durability and the time required for treatment.
Bonding is the less expensive option of the two, and it also only takes one visit to our office to complete treatment. Since bonding is made of tooth-colored putty and does not require use of a dental lab, treatment only takes about an hour.
Getting veneers, on the other hand, can take a few weeks since we must get them custom-made for your teeth. Dental veneers cost more than dental bonding, too. Patience pays off, though, as veneers are often more durable and last longer than dental bonding. If proper oral health care is followed, veneers can last for over 10 years.
Prior to making your decision, we are happy to discuss different treatment options with you. Please call 614-575-9530 to schedule a consultation appointment. We will determine your oral health goals and what is best for your smile.
