Implant-Supported Dentures
Our team at McKibben Dental is committed to helping our patients restore their smile’s natural function and beauty. If you have a few or several missing teeth, implant-supported dentures may be the right option for you and your oral health. Unlike traditional dentures that sit on the top of your gums, implant-supported dentures are strongly anchored to your jawbone, so they won’t slip or detach. These types of dentures are ideal for patients who are looking for a very natural look and feel of teeth while having the confidence to do daily tasks such as eating, chewing and talking etc. without the fear of detachment.
Benefits of Implant-Supported Dentures
These dentures help to replace several teeth at once–if you have lost most or all of your natural teeth, Dr. McKibben and Dr. Ehrbar may recommend implant-supported dentures as the right option. Typically, your overdenture will need at least two dental implants for support of the dentures–however, all-on-6 implants may be the best option for the best results.
Attachments are placed underneath the dentures which connect the implants. The denture fits onto the dental implants once they are placed in the patient’s mouth. This means the denture will be extremely secure and stable, giving you the confidence and functionality you need to eat and drink compared to traditional dentures.
How The Procedure Works
To begin the procedure, Dr. McKibben and Dr. Ehrbar will place dental implants into the jawbone of the patient. For this to happen, the patient must have sufficient bone density. During the next few months, these implants will fuse to your jaw in a process known as osseointegration–we will check in with the progress to ensure that everything is healing properly.
Once we have ensured that you are healed properly from this surgery, we will put the arch of dentures into place. Just like traditional dentures, implant-supported dentures will have a base that is made to look like your natural gums.
